Bayfront Speedway
I read this article (registration required) on GoErie about the recent traffic enforcement by the local and state police on the Bayfront. This little snippet made me choke on my toast.
Ian Zelgowski’s citation indicates he was tagged traveling 71 mph along the Bayfront Connector when he was caught by a Pennsylvania State Police trooper’s radar gun and then pulled over by an Erie police officer. The fine comes to $179.50, with all the costs included. The speed limit is 35 mph or 45 mph along the Bayfront Parkway and Bayfront Connector.
…But Tuesday’s results indicated Ian Zelgowski’s 71 mph wasn’t unusual along the Bayfront Connector. In fact, he wasn’t even the fastest offender: Two drivers were stopped for traveling at more than 90 mph and several others were tracked at more than 80 mph elsewhere on the Bayfront Connector.”
I don’t even know where to begin. What the hell are these people thinking? I don’t even go 90 on the goddamn highway, let alone on a stretch of road that has a speed limit of 45mph. It’s not even worth it really, since you’ll have to change lanes so often to get past the other “slowpokes” who are actually going the speed limit or slightly over (5mph or less). The other thing is that there was more than one person going above 90mph; What the fuck is wrong with people? One day someone’s going to try to shave a few minutes off their commute and end up shaving off the top of their head or something. I hope at least one of those people got their license suspended and now has to ride the bus…maybe they’ll learn to slow down a little in life.
