The Interview

OK, I got tagged by Emma to answer some interview questions. Here we go!

1. You recently adopted a dog. What made you decide to do that and how did you choose that dog?

Well, my wife told me that she either wanted another baby or a dog, so I picked the cheaper of the two.

No, seriously, my wife and I had been talking about getting a dog for a long time, and we finally decided we were ready to do it. She has a little more time now that she only has 1 job instead of 2, so we could get a younger dog and she could help with it’s training a little more than she could previously. Monica went to the Humane Society a few times and kept going back to Molly, and then talked to me about her. Once she sent me a cell phone picture I was sold, that dog was as adorable then as she is now. She’s great with the kids and she learns quick….except she decides to ignore me when she’s “playing” with the neighbor’s dogs through the fence. We’ll have to work on that.

2. Why did you start a blog?

Well, I started this blog with this domain name after my not-so-bright ex had an English malfunction. She asked me for another word for “Reason” for some paper she was writing, so I whipped out the ol’ Thesaurus and told her “OK, you can use Motive, Grounds, or Motivation” and she immediately told me that Motivegrounds was a great word and she was going to use it. After about 5 minutes of trying to explain to her that it was really 2 words, she called me an asshole, told her I made her feel stupid and started crying, Why, oh why did I ever leave that diamond in the rough?

3. What do you like best about living in Erie?

We’re sort of in the middle of a lot of good things - If you want to go to the zoo, you can either go to the Erie Zoo or take a quick road trip to the Cleveland Zoo. We’re not a huge town so it doesn’t take me an hour to get home from work (even at 4:30-5:00!), and while the property taxes kind of suck the cost of living is pretty cheap. Plus my 100 year old house is sturdier than some of the newer construction, and has some history (it was an old speakeasy back in the Prohibition days!). We’re a small town with lots to offer, we just need to improve our image (physical image and perception) and get more commerce.

4. What’s your best childhood memory?

I’d have to pick a few, I can’t pick just one! I’d say going with my grandparents to Camp Judson, playing in the woods and riding bikes for miles with my friends when we lived in Wattsburg, and getting my first job picking strawberries. I got fired from there, the only time I have ever gotten fired actually, but it was just because the season was slowing down and I couldn’t pick very many good berries. Hey, I was like 13, cut me some slack!

5. What one thing would you like to do before you die that you haven’t accomplished yet?

Get my Bachelor’s. I only have my Associate’s, and I’m happy where I am now, but I want to make sure I’m prepared for the future if something I want comes along and requires it. I also want to take a trip overseas with Monica, maybe to London, Scotland, or Ireland, something like that :)

Because I’m lazy and I also have to put the kids to bed, I’m going to copy/paste the rules for The Interview:

Want to be interviewed?

Follow these instructions:

1. Leave me a comment saying, “Interview me.”
2. I will respond by emailing you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will update your blog with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.
